AEL Playdate – New South Wales
One of the highlights of my job is that I get to spend quality time with outstanding educators who love their job and love what Adobe tools can do to improve and enhance teaching and learning. Today was an example of this when a small group of AELs (Adobe Education Leaders) from New South Wales met together with Pip Cleaves and myself for the 2014 NSW AEL Playdate.

Most of the AELs shared some of the creative things they are going in their classrooms. Including new NSW AELs. Jason Carthew shared a summary version of the presentation he gave at the AEL Summit in San Jose California last year and reminded us of a very important point …
The afternoon was spent enhancing out video capture and editing skills with the help of Adobe Premier Pro CC.

AEL Playdate – Western Australia
Scotch College Perth was a fantastic venue for the 2014 Adobe Education Leaders (AEL) Playdate on 15th April.

The concept of an AEL Playdate is to allow the AELs to get together, share their experiences and expertise using Adobe products at their schools and learn from each other.
The main focus for this event was to develop skills in video production using Premier Pro through the production of a set of interviews about the importance of creativity in education.
The highlight for me at this event was the sharing sessions. It is always great to hear about the innovative use of Adobe tools and services being used to enhance teaching and learning.

Adobe Education Leadership Forum – 2014

The 2014 Asia Pacific Adobe Education Leadership Forum in Kuala Lumpur was a huge success. The forum focused on the importance of creativity in education and a wide selection of speakers from across Asia Pacific shared their insights, research and experiences with about 130 Tertiary and K-12 Education leaders.

Hisamichi Kinomoto, Adobe’s Vice President for Marketing in JAPAC (Japan & Asia Pacific), attended the whole event and summarised it at the end by saying that creativity is a key piece of the puzzle that we are trying to solve together and that the tools that Adobe provide can help transfer the wealth of knowledge from the mind of teachers into the hands of students.

A quick trip to Singapore

Today I spoke to a wonderful group of educators from ITE (Institute of Technical Education) in Singapore about using Adobe tools and programs to enhance creativity in their teaching.
These educators came from a wide variety of faculties with a strong focus on IT and Media.
I was given a tour of the fully functioning ITE restaurant and hotel which are used in the hospitality courses.
I was very impressed with the focus on creativity and innovation throughout the campus.
While in Singapore I stayed at the amazing Marina Bay Sands which has over 2000 rooms but is about 90% full all the time. It was so full that they had trouble finding the room that I booked so asked if I wouldn’t mind having a free upgrade to a bay side suite. I didn’t complain. Bit of a waste for just me for one night, it was about as big as the ground floor of my home and even had a theatre room.

While in Singapore, it was great to meet some of the local Adobe staff and visit the Singapore Adobe office.
Now, I’m off the Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) where we are hosting a major event for about 160 of Asia Pacific’s top education leaders. This will be my first time to KL and it happens to be the weekend of the KL Grand Prix so should be an exciting time to be there.

Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria was officially launched tonight by the Victorian Minister of Education, the Honourable Martin Dixon, at the Roof Top, Daniel Mannix Building, Australian Catholic University.
It has been a long time coming, but worth the wait to have VITTA & ICTEV join together to become DLTV. Special thank you to everyone involved with both VITTA and ICTEV who helped make the merger a possibility, especially Dr Donna Gronn (past president of ICTEV) & Phil Calill (past president of VITTA). DLTV is now all set up to help Victorian teachers enhance learning and teaching with effective ICT based solutions.

Flipping Your Classroom with Adobe – DLTV Workshop

The first of a series of Flipping Your Classroom with Adobe sessions was a great success yesterday. This session was hosted by DLTV (Digital Learning & Teaching Victoria).
The Flipped Classroom approach is where the bulk of the instructional content is delivered outside of the classroom usually for homework and usually via streamed video. This allows for more engagement with curriculum content & concepts in class (such as skill development, and project work) with a collaborative approach facilitated by the classroom teacher.
After going through some theory and research behind the Flipped approach we did a workshop on Adobe Presenter which I consider the easiest tool to use to create a quality video sequence.

The rest of the day was spent developing video literacy skills in pre-production (planning), production (filming) and post production (editing). The main video editing tool used was Adobe Premier Pro CC which, even though is an industry standard, it can be used basic editing from about Grade 4 upwards.

Queensland Schools of Creative Excellence Program

A key aspect of the enterprise agreement between Queensland Education and Adobe is the Queensland Schools of Creative Excellence (SOCE) Program. This is a project involving several teachers from four QLD government schools being selected and trained as Adobe Education Leaders (AELs) and then sharing out to their school community and beyond the creative advantages of working with Adobe tools in the classroom. This video outlines what we did during the first two days of training in Brisbane.

The Schools of Creative Excellence project will provide up to 4 schools annually an opportunity to become Schools of Creative Excellence. Adobe will support schools in the development of innovative and creative practices through the use of the Adobe suite of software to increase learning productivity and provide flexibility to meet the needs of their learners.
Through the program Adobe will provide the schools with sponsored software, training and professional sharing opportunities. It is expected that the schools will explore the potential of this software with in connection with the Australian Curriculum and then share their results with the wider Queensland school network.
Adobe Captivate – Empowering students across Victoria

It was a pleasure to spend some time at Bendigo Secondary College in the production of this video about they way they use Adobe Captivate as a key part of their Victorian Virtual Learning Network.
The Victorian Virtual Learning Network (VVLN) develops and delivers online curriculum for VCE students with a focus on emerging areas of the national curriculum. Their courses are currently being delivered to 245 students in 44 schools across Victoria.
